Frequently Asked Questions
It's completely normal to have questions before reaching out for psychiatric care. Below are answers to common questions about medication management, the treatment process, and what to expect.
Beginning Care
Getting Started
What services do you provide?
I offer psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing treatment for various psychiatric conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, and related mental health concerns. Services are provided virtually across Illinois, Kentucky, and Maryland.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes. All services are currently provided through telehealth, allowing you to receive care from the comfort and privacy of your home. Virtual appointments are available for psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and follow-up visits.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Your initial visit includes a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation where we discuss your symptoms, history, goals, and concerns. This is a conversation, not an interrogation. You'll have time to share what's been going on at your own pace, ask questions, and explore whether medication might be helpful. Together, we develop a personalized treatment plan.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Appointments can be scheduled through the online booking link on this website. You can also reach out by phone or email if you have questions before scheduling or prefer to book directly with the office.

Logistics
How long are appointments?
Initial psychiatric evaluations are scheduled for 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments for medication management are scheduled for 30 minutes. This gives adequate time for check-ins, questions, and treatment adjustments without feeling rushed.
How often will follow-up visits occur?
Follow-up frequency depends on your individual needs, treatment response, and whether medications are being adjusted or stabilized. Some clients need more frequent check-ins initially, while others move to monthly or less frequent visits once stable. We determine the schedule together based on what makes sense for your care.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows the time to be offered to another client who may need it. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a fee.
Costs and Coverage
Fees and Insurance
What are your fees?
For cash-pay patients:
- Initial psychiatric evaluation: $200
- Follow-up visit: $150
For insured patients, services are submitted directly to insurance, and patient responsibility (copay, coinsurance, or deductible) is determined by your individual insurance plan.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I'm in-network with various commercial insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare (Optum), Oxford, Oscar (Optum), Carelon Behavioral Health, Quest Behavioral Health, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. Coverage and benefits vary by plan, so it's important to verify eligibility with your insurance before your appointment.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Payment can be made by credit card, debit card, or HSA/FSA card when applicable. For insured patients, co-pays or patient responsibility amounts are collected at the time of service.
How Treatment Works
Treatment Process
Do you prescribe medication?
Yes. When appropriate, medication may be prescribed and carefully monitored as part of your treatment plan. Medication decisions are always made collaboratively—we discuss options, potential benefits and side effects, and make decisions together based on your symptoms, history, and preferences.
How long does treatment take?
The length of treatment varies for each person. Some clients need medication management for a few months during a difficult period, while others benefit from ongoing support over a longer time. Treatment isn't about reaching a finish line—it's about supporting your brain chemistry and overall stability for as long as makes sense for you.
What approach do you use?
I use a collaborative, patient-centered approach to medication management. This means treatment decisions are made together, appointments feel unhurried, and your concerns and preferences are valued as much as clinical guidelines. I focus on long-term brain health and sustainable improvement rather than quick symptom suppression.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is taken seriously, and all care is provided in accordance with HIPAA confidentiality standards. Information is only shared with your consent or in specific situations required by law (such as imminent risk of harm to self or others).
What if I have concerns about starting medication?
Many people have concerns about starting psychiatric medication, and those concerns are valid and welcome here. Common worries include side effects, dependency, personality changes, or not knowing how long treatment will last. We'll discuss these concerns openly, and you'll receive clear, honest information about what to expect. Medication is never prescribed without your full informed consent.

What is GeneSight testing, and will I need it?
GeneSight is a genetic test that looks at how your body may process certain psychiatric medications. It's not required for everyone—I use it strategically when it may help guide medication selection, especially after multiple medication trials or concerning side effects. We'll discuss whether GeneSight testing makes sense for your specific situation.
What if I'm currently working with a therapist?
That's great. Medication management and therapy often work well together. I can coordinate with your therapist (with your consent) to ensure we're supporting you in a unified way. Many clients find that medication helps create enough stability for therapy to be more effective.
